#MeettheVoices Episode 3 Vishnu

10 years ago, on 26/11, the city of Mumbai and its people were under siege for 4 long, terrifying days. The assailants unleashed a bloodbath by first striking at the heart of our city – the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) railway station.

For hundreds of passengers that evening, returning home to their loved ones looked uncertain. However, amidst the deafening gun shots and a rising pandemonium, some passengers heard the calm voice of a railway announcer that guided them to safety. One local passenger, J. Sanil, recalls this voice today, as the voice of “God”.

In the 3rd and final episode of Meet The Voice, watch the unbelievable account of Vishnu Zende, a regular railway announcer, whose impeccable presence of mind and unwavering voice helped save hundreds of lives during the 26/11 terror attacks.

We dedicate this episode to the brave hearts and the loved ones we lost and the beloved city that was ravaged but came back stronger and never stopped welcoming people with warmth, love and acceptance.

भूतपूर्व रेल मंत्री सी. के. जाफर शरीफ का निधन

भूतपूर्व रेल मंत्री सी. के. जाफर शरीफ का आज निधन हो गया, वे 85 वर्ष के थे।

रेल मंत्री जाफर शरीफ ने 1991 से 1995 तक रेल मंत्रालय का कामकाज सम्भाला था। उनकी अपने कार्यकाल की यह विशेष उप्लब्धियाँ थी।

उन्होंने सभी छोटी लाइनोंको यूनिगेज प्रोग्राम तहत ब्रॉड गेज के बदलने का महत्वकांक्षी मिशन चालू करवाया।

दूसरी बड़ी उपलब्धि यह की थ्री टियर सेकंड क्लास स्लिपर को एक अलग स्लिपर क्लास को भारतीय रेल में शुरूवात की।

यूनिगेज भारतिय रेल में सैनिकी मुव्हमेंट, उद्योग जगत में माल ढुलाई के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय था, वैसे ही स्लिपर क्लास का इज़ाद करना भी रेलवे के फायदे में इजाफा करनेवाला निर्णय था, जो आज भी भारतीय रेल में सबसे ज्यादा कमाऊं क्लास है।

रेलदुनिया, उन्हें भावपूर्ण श्रद्धान्जलि देते हुए उनके कार्य का गौरव करता है।

On 22nd July 2015, we accidentally bumped into the charming Ganesh Shrinivas. This accidental meeting, turned into a beautiful friendship that taught us the true meaning of compassion, determination and undying hope.

Remember the sweet voice waking us up in time just before our stop arrived? Warning us about strange objects? Coaxing us to not travel ticketless or stand too close to the tracks?

3 years ago, we went in search of the woman whose voice echoed for 22 years in the Mumbai Local Trains and found her working in a small office, forgotten by the world.
